Starmer Confirms Plan to Contest Next UK General Election

(MENAFN) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he plans to contest the next general election, pushing back against speculation about the future of his leadership, according to reports.

During a visit to northwest London, Starmer said he remains focused on his role as both prime minister and leader of the Labour Party.

“No, we've got a lot of work to do,” he said when asked whether his time in office was nearing its end.

He added that his priority is his duty to the country, stressing that his attention remains on governing responsibilities.

“I'm very focused on what I consider to be my responsibility, my duty, and that is to the country,” he said.

Starmer also pointed to the need to “turn things around” following an election defeat, saying his focus must stay on delivering results.

He further confirmed his intention to remain in frontline politics, stating, “I do want to fight the next election,” when asked about his plans for a potential second term as prime minister.
