Qatar Calls for Regional Solution to Strait of Hormuz Crisis
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari, speaking in remarks carried by a news outlet, said that “Everyone must work toward a sustainable solution on this issue,” emphasizing the need for collective engagement.
He added that “The security of the Strait of Hormuz must not be threatened by any party, and there should be no preconditions for reopening it,” and stressed that “The language of threats is unacceptable, and we deal with all threats in a way that ensures the safety of our country,” according to the same remarks.
Al-Ansari also noted that there is “no issue” in managing the waterway at present, while warning that any disruption would have consequences extending well beyond global energy markets.
He further stated that the ceasefire between Iran and the United States “must continue,” saying efforts should now focus on strengthening and maintaining the truce.
Calling for diplomacy as the main path forward, he expressed Qatar’s support for Lebanese efforts aimed at de-escalation and ending ongoing conflict with Israel, according to reports.
The comments come amid heightened regional tensions following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which have contributed to significant casualties and broader instability in the region.
