China Import Expo Achieves Billions in Deals

(MENAFN) The eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded on Monday, setting a new record with $83.49 billion worth of one-year intended transactions — a 4.4% increase compared to the previous edition, according to expo authorities.

This achievement followed the recent summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in South Korea, during which both leaders reached an agreement on a one-year trade and tariff arrangement.

Taking place from Nov. 5–10 in the eastern metropolis of Shanghai, the expo drew participation from 4,108 companies representing 138 nations and regions.

Among them were 290 firms and industry leaders listed in the Fortune Global 500, as reported by a news agency.

Over its six-day duration, the exhibition unveiled 461 innovative products, technologies, and services spanning sectors such as biomedical research, industrial machinery, and environmentally friendly low-carbon solutions.

The event welcomed 43 trade missions and more than 700 sub-delegations, with over 460,000 registered visitors — marking a 7% rise from the prior year’s attendance.

For the past 16 years, China has consistently ranked as the world’s second-largest import marketplace.

According to Vice Commerce Minister Sheng Qiuping, the nation’s total imports of goods and services during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) are projected to surpass $15 trillion.

First inaugurated in 2018 as China’s premier national-level exhibition dedicated to imports, the CIIE was designed to advance the country’s policy of openness and convert its immense domestic market into a globally shared opportunity.
