Tech Billionaires Explore Merging AI with Humanity

(MENAFN) Wealthy entrepreneurs and high-ranking officials from artificial intelligence (AI) companies—such as OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, the creator of ChatGPT, and Tesla’s originator Elon Musk—are at the forefront of ventures aimed at integrating AI and biotechnology into humans, a philosophy scholar told a news agency on Thursday, cautioning that strong ethical protections are essential to prevent "dehumanization."

As per a news outlet, Altman is getting ready to unveil Merge Labs, a startup focused on brain-computer connections, which is set to rival Musk's company, Neuralink.

Ahmet Dag, an academic at Bursa Uludag University in Türkiye, explained that these initiatives are designed to surpass human physiological boundaries by boosting intellectual, bodily, and emotional abilities.

Dag also pointed out that Ray Kurzweil, who once worked as an engineer for Google, laid the groundwork—both in theory and application—for “transhumanism” long before Musk and Altman stepped into the domain.

“Technological singularity, which came to the fore with Musk’s Neuralink in 2021, seeks to transfer human consciousness to machines through brain–computer interfaces and implants,” he said.

“Sam Altman’s involvement in this new initiative shows that this tech is going to transform health care and education, but it will also bring about global economic and social shifts.”

Dag stressed that the underlying drive of transhumanism lies in humanity’s urge to constantly break barriers and invent alternative modes of existence.
