Ukraine Detains Two Chinese Nationals
According to a declaration by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), the two Chinese citizens were captured in the capital city, Kyiv, on suspicion of trying to smuggle sensitive documents concerning the RK-360MC Neptune missile system.
The statement highlighted that this missile system was instrumental in Ukraine’s sinking of the Russian missile cruiser Moskva, which was previously the flagship of Moscow’s Black Sea fleet in 2022.
The investigation revealed that one of the detainees is a former student who was expelled from a technical university in Kyiv in 2023.
“Another defendant is his father, who permanently resided in China but periodically visited Ukraine to personally coordinate his son's spy work,” the SBU statement further explained.
The security agency also reported that the expelled student attempted to recruit a Ukrainian citizen involved in weapons development.
Authorities confiscated “phones with evidence” from both suspects during their searches.
The SBU concluded by stating that the accused could face up to 15 years of imprisonment along with the confiscation of their property.
