Poland Mulls Blocking Musk's X Over Grok AI Inflammatory Remarks
Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s deputy prime minister and minister of digital affairs, said during an interview that banning the platform is on the table if it continues to breach ethical norms through its AI tools.
"I would consider such possibilities. I'm not ruling anything out, and I believe that if artificial intelligence and AI models on various platforms don't adhere to ethical principles, technological sovereignty is violated," Gawkowski stated when questioned about a potential block on X.
Although he clarified that there are no immediate plans to shut down access to the platform, Gawkowski emphasized that the Polish government is equipped with the legal instruments to take such action.
"I have the impression that we're entering a higher level of hate speech, driven by algorithms,” he warned. “Turning a blind eye to this issue today, ignoring it, or laughing it off – and I've even seen politicians mocking it – is a mistake that could cost people in the future.”
In response to Grok’s disparaging commentary about Polish politics, the official said the government intends to report the incident to the European Commission. If violations are confirmed, regulatory penalties could be imposed on X.
"Freedom of speech belongs to humans, not artificial intelligence," Gawkowski concluded.
