China Blasts U.S. Ban on Foreign Land Ownership
“We urge the US to immediately stop politicizing trade and investment issues,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated during a live-streamed press briefing in Beijing.
Her comments followed an announcement by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins on Tuesday, revealing that the U.S. will move to prohibit all sales of farmland to buyers linked to China and other hostile countries, as reported by media.
Mao accused Washington of excessively invoking “national security” as justification, arguing that the restrictions unfairly strip individuals and institutions from certain countries of their legitimate ability to invest in land or property in the United States.
She warned that such “discriminatory” policies contradict free-market principles and global trade norms, ultimately undermining American economic interests.
In a separate response to comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently claimed that “ties with Beijing have improved,” Mao maintained that Beijing has “been very fair on our trade deal.”
She reiterated that China continues to approach its relationship with the U.S. based on "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation."
