AAIB Reveals Initial Findings on Tragic Air India Crash
"AAIB submits its preliminary report on the AI 171 plane crash to the ministry of civil aviation and the concerned authorities. The report filed is based on the initial findings of the probe," ANI cited its top sources.
Although the specifics of the preliminary report remain undisclosed, it is expected to shed crucial light on the factors that led to the tragedy.
The ill-fated Air India flight AI 171, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and en route to London, went down on June 12 shortly after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The crash occurred roughly 17 kilometers south of Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat state, resulting in the deaths of 241 of the 242 people aboard.
Tragically, 19 additional lives were lost on the ground when the aircraft struck the premises of B J Medical College in Meghaninagar, inflicting extensive damage to nearby buildings.
Investigators retrieved the aircraft’s black boxes — the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR) — which have since been transported to the AAIB laboratory in Delhi for detailed analysis.
The AAIB, tasked with probing aviation accidents across India, launched a comprehensive investigation immediately after the crash and formed a multidisciplinary team on June 13. This move followed established international standards and protocols to determine the cause of the disaster.
