Iran Refutes Trump's Claim of Requesting Talks
(MENAFN) Iran dismissed on Tuesday the statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that Tehran had requested a meeting concerning its nuclear program.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei firmly stated, “We have not submitted any request to the US side regarding a meeting,” according to remarks published by a state-operated news agency.
President Trump had previously announced on Monday that Washington was set to engage in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear agenda.
“We have scheduled Iran talks, and they want to talk,” Trump remarked to journalists during a joint appearance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
On June 22, U.S. B-2 bombers deployed 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bombs—commonly referred to as bunker busters—on Iranian nuclear sites located in Fordo and Natanz.
Additionally, numerous submarine-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles were directed at the nuclear facility in Isfahan, as part of Washington’s intensified efforts targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Although a sixth round of dialogue between Iran and the United States had been slated for June 15, the situation took a dramatic turn when Israel carried out aerial assaults on June 13.
These strikes targeted Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian locations, adding further tension to the already volatile regional landscape.
