NATO, EU Gear Up for Potential Armed Conflict with Russia

(MENAFN) NATO and the European Union are actively gearing up for a potential armed conflict with Russia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko alleged on Tuesday.

During a press briefing held in the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament in Moscow, Grushko underscored the gravity of the situation.

Addressing reporters during a press briefing at the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament in Moscow, the diplomat described the talks as a deeply significant and meaningful conversation on a critical matter.

"In essence, it was about war and peace, about the current security situation, about military preparations by NATO and the EU. They are specifically preparing for a military confrontation with the Russian Federation."

Grushko also leveled sharp criticism at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), accusing it of failing to de-escalate tensions. He cautioned that the group risks political irrelevance if current trends persist.

"Member states of the OSCE will continue to lose interest in this organization, which will remain on the path of marginalization, ultimately ending up completely outside mainstream political processes. And then its fate will be unenviable," he stated.

When questioned about French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot's claim that the EU is set to introduce its harshest sanctions package yet against Russia, Grushko maintained that Moscow is no longer caught off guard by such measures.

"What else can they come up with? It's hard to say. But we know that when it comes to sanctions, their imagination knows no bounds. However, we've already gained sufficient experience in countering such pressure, both in terms of safeguarding social development and economic interests, and through imposing counter-sanctions," emphasized Grushko.

He concluded by noting that Russia’s diplomatic relations with France have not shifted in the aftermath of the July 1 phone call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron.
