UN Chief Mourns Texas Flood Victims
"The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, notably of a large number of children, caused by the recent floods in Texas, which struck during what should have been a time of celebration over the holiday weekend," said spokesman Stephane Dujarric in a statement.
Guterres extended his deepest sympathies to the families of those killed and voiced his support for everyone affected, including the people of Texas and the U.S. government, Dujarric added.
According to local officials, the flash floods that inundated central Texas have left at least 87 people dead, with dozens more unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continued into their fourth day on Monday.
