Netanyahu Warns Against Full Palestinian Statehood
This statement was made in response to a question about the viability of a Palestinian state.
While dining with Netanyahu on Monday, a journalist asked Trump whether establishing a Palestinian state was still feasible. “I don’t know,” Trump responded, passing the question to Netanyahu.
Netanyahu expressed support for limited Palestinian self-governance, stating, “I think the Palestinians should have all the powers to govern themselves, but none of the powers to threaten us.”
He emphasized that critical authority, such as "overall security," would have to remain under Israeli control.
Referring to a past incident, Netanyahu pointed out that Hamas used its rule over Gaza to launch the October 7, 2023, assault against Israel.
“So people aren’t likely to say, ‘Let’s just give them another state.’ It’ll be a platform to destroy Israel,” he asserted.
The prime minister concluded by reaffirming his willingness to reach a resolution with peaceful Palestinian groups.
“We will work out a peace with our Palestinian neighbors, those who don’t want to destroy us, and we will work out a peace in which our security, the sovereign power of security, always remains in our hands,” Netanyahu stated.
