PLA naval fleet departs from Hong Kong
Earlier that morning, local residents and student representatives gathered at the PLA Hong Kong Garrison’s dock at Stonecutters Island, where the Zhanjiang missile destroyer and Yuncheng missile frigate prepared to set sail. Amid the bustling Victoria Harbor, the aircraft carrier Shandong and the Yan’an missile destroyer displayed signal flags bearing messages such as “Thanks for your support” and “Serving the people.”
The farewell event began around 10 a.m., during which the fleet commander expressed heartfelt appreciation to the HKSAR government and the local community for their warm hospitality. Guests of honor joined in a photo session to commemorate the occasion.
Following the ceremony, the Zhanjiang and Yuncheng sounded their naval whistles as their crews lined the decks, waving farewell to the onlookers. These two ships then rejoined the Shandong and Yan’an in a designated maritime area, accompanied by escorts from HKSAR helicopters and vessels.
During the fleet’s stay, a series of activities were organized, including deck receptions, ship tours, training demonstrations, national defense talks, and cultural exchanges. These engagements sparked strong feelings of enthusiasm and patriotism among the Hong Kong population.
Students proudly displayed a large national flag on the Shandong’s deck, while elderly visitors were moved to tears during their visit aboard the vessels. Residents and officers joined voices in song, and the message wall at the dock filled with well-wishes for the country and gratitude toward the PLA.
