Green Party Urges Discounted Ice Cream

(MENAFN) Germany’s Green Party has appealed to ice cream vendors in Berlin, suggesting they provide discounted servings for young people from economically disadvantaged families, as reported by a local tabloid.

The initiative aims to make summer treats more accessible amidst growing concern over rising prices.

This proposal follows a recent study that revealed around 64 percent of Germans consider current ice cream prices excessive.

Many participants in the survey admitted they have changed their purchasing habits due to the increased expenses.

According to the tabloid, three members of Berlin’s state parliament representing the Greens – Benedikt Lux, Tuba Bozkurt, and Marianne Burkert-Eulitz – have contacted the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga).

In a letter reviewed by the publication, they suggested that each ice cream shop offer at least one flavor for just 50 cents (USD0.60).

“We would be pleased to enter into a more in-depth discussion with you on this matter in the near future and to consider whether this is a viable proposal to make summer even more enjoyable for everyone in our beautiful city,” the lawmakers wrote, according to the paper.

While emphasizing that participation would be entirely voluntary, the MPs expressed optimism that smaller, locally operated parlors might be inclined to support the cause.
